Back in June, our friends at Almost Musique (M O N E Y, Shimmering Stars, Mariee Sioux etc) introduced us to The Daredevil Christopher Wright, yet another superb (indie) signee to their rather international catalogue. Video Premiere: unhappybirthday - “Pyramiden”.

Apologies for the flood of "premieres" today, call it a lack of proper coordination on our end. Anyway, here's another one you shouldn't dare to miss, the brand new video for "Pyramiden" by unhappybirthday. The trio hails from the ancient Baltic Sea port Wismar, a place apparently grim enough to fall back into convincingly stubborn post-punk schticks, with a ramshackle production over motorik beats, enriched with just the right amount of Teutonic furor to complete the picture of three lost boys on the fringes of society. The video adds some hints of Riefenstahl's aesthetics when portraying the band, a fact that may come across as overly obvious yet that manages to remain subtle enough to not end up anywhere close to Rammstein territory. The song itself is pretty infecting, showcasing a young outfit's potential that could let it become one of the freshest things in the guitar music realm in Germany as of late. Very promising indeed. "Pyramiden" is taken from unhappybirthday's debut full-length Sirup, which is out tomorrow, September 4, via Crash Symbols. Premiere: Russell.M.Harmon - “Without You, I’d Cease”.

The static, ambient soundscapes of Reykjavik-based Russell.M.Harmon first caught our attention in the cold winter days of February, as we were given the first look into the absolutely stunning craftwork "Tragedy Fractures", that dove into deep and apocalyptic landscapes in inspiration of Ben Frost. Almost exactly 6 months later, Harmon's debut EP We Are Failed is finally upon us, claiming his love (or perhaps fear) for the unescapable silence, that even makes mechanic waves of noise seem human in a way. Then there's of course the piano, which works as a catalyst for Harmon's slow-burning atmospheres, unsurprisingly also his favourite tool of trade; a cure for absence. "Without You, I'd Cease" is the second track off We Are Failed, as you may want to listen to in whole right here. Berlin Music Week: ICAS Suite.

Only two days to go until this year's edition of Berlin Music Week kicks off on September 5, so it's about time to start recommending some of the good stuff that's about to happen during the upcoming festival/convention/music people gathering in and around Kreuzberg. We'd first like to draw your attention towards the ICAS Suite, spreading across four nights from Wednesday till Saturday, at five venues in the Kottbusser Tor area. ICAS, or International Cities of Advanced Sound, is a loose association of about 30 organisations from across the globe that share a vision of promoting and highlighting sound, music and related arts that are firmly rooted in underground culture. Berlin's ICAS Suite is a collaboration between likeminded institutions, including CTM Festival, Unsound Festival, The Wire, Electronic Beats, Hippos In Tanks, Spex, the city's musical mastermind Michail Stangl, and numerous others that you may check out over here. To list every of the festival's event would be too much, it's all here for your convenience. However, a few highlights should be mentioned: At Festsaal Kreuzberg on Wednesday, CTM Festival, UNO, Hippos In Tanks, and Julie Tippex host a night that will feature performances by A Cell of One, High Wolf, Mykki Blanco, and Physical Therapy, followed by a DJ set by Spex writers Thomas Vorreyer and Jan Wehn. At the same venue on Thursday, Unsound and Michail Stangl get serious with live appearances by UK pundits Emika and Clark, who will be accompanied by DJ sets brought to you by Nguzunguzu, Polish DJs Sentel and The Phantom, all topped off with visuals by Pussykrew. Friday will see our favourite Pantha Du Prince headlining the night at Festsaal, brought to you by CTM, Nuites Sonores, and Flux.fm, supremely accompanied by performances and sets by Andreas Reihse, Spitzer, Jens Strüver, and Flux.fm DJs. On Saturday we'll be blessed with a very special occasion, Toulouse festival Les Siestes Electroniques, Berlin venue Chez Jacki, and booking agency Planet Rock gathering some of this planet's most distinguished hunters of lost and rare sounds, Brian Shimkovitz's Awesome Tapes From Africa, Finders Keepers, and French obscurity powerhouse Cartilage Consortium will present a premium selection of their discoveries. All four days will start with a barbecue at Festsaal Kreuzberg at 6pm for an informal meet and greet with the festival's participants. If I were you, I would keep an eye out on the Toronto-based French producer and musician Sarah Fawkes in the nearest future, being yet another splendid example of the rapidly growing electronic scene within the Canadian borders. As we recently saw Solar Year emerged from the creative suburbs of Montreal, Fawkes' dark and eternal production finds a similar atmosphere to the last-mentioned duo, and also in the veins of Grimes, or a less sugary version of her so to speak. According to her Soundcloud, "Ekno" is apparently her first musical effort under the moniker, and also the first track off her debut EP coming out this fall. Apparently isn't the 'physical' link to Grimes so far away either, as the video was made in collaboration with Neal Rockwell and Evan Prosofsky, who also worked on Grimes' "Oblivion" (directed by Emily Kai Bock, the same brain behind the upcoming Solar Year video). All though its massive areal, Canada can sometimes feel really tiny.
